Welcome Letter from the Principal

Dear Sandy Miller Academy Families:
Welcome back to school! I would like to extend a very special welcome to our new students and families.
Welcome to the Sandy Miller family! We have been working hard to prepare for the new school year.
Our very first event is our virtual Meet and Greet. Please join us virtually on August 19, 2020, from 1:30 to 3:00
pm, for this event. This is an opportunity for you and your child to meet your child’s teacher and get important
information about the school year. Teachers will also be sending information in advance about daily schedules and
expectations. Again, the Meet and Greet is from 1:30 to 3:00 on August 19, 2020. Your child’s teacher will be
sending a link for you to join on Google Meets to your email. Please ensure that we have your current email and
contact information in Infinite Campus so we may reach you.
Remember that school starts on August 24, 2020. It is important that your child logs in to Canvas for school on the
first official day of school. We are excited to see all of our students soon, on camera!
At this time we have not been given information about food distribution. We will send this information, as well as
all other updates, through Parentlink when we receive it. We will post important information on our Facebook
page and website as well.
Our instructional day starts at 8:50 am and ends at 3:20 pm. You will receive a schedule that gives details about
when real time lessons will occur throughout the day and when other types of learning will take place. The
schedule will be a mix of real time instruction and time when your child will be completing independent learning
activities, viewing recorded lessons, etc. Your child will also receive virtual lessons from our specialist teachers.
These schedules are currently being developed and will be sent to you by email when completed. You will also be
able to access all information in Canvas, which is the learning platform we will be using. We really wish we could
have all of our students with us here in the school building and look forward to seeing everyone soon. In the
meantime, we will be working towards providing the very best distance instruction we can. Our teachers will be in
training for the next two and a half weeks to prepare for distance learning. We will begin deploying Chromebooks
to our students that need them next week. If you have not been contacted, and need a Chromebook, please call
the school. Please ensure that you have filled out the Network Access Form in Infinite Campus. You must give
permission for your student to have computer network access in order to do distance learning and to adhere to
the Acceptable Use Policy.
Our office staff will be answering phones and returning calls from 7:30 am to 3:45 pm. Office visits are by
appointment only from 8:00 to 3:00. Our front office staff will do their best to help you by phone. If that is not
possible, you may make an appointment to come to the school.
Kind regards,
Lene Muth, Principal
